TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR INFECTED WOUNDS

People living with infected wounds can experience limitations to their physical, social, and psychological functioning that can impact their quality of life. Promoting the person’s health, immunity, and well-being is imperative in preventing or treating wound infection. A full assessment of the individual, their wound and the wound care environment is vital to achieving positive outcomes. (WUWHS, 2022)

The effective management and treatment of wound infections is challenging. It is essential that clinicians are able to identify wound infections correctly and, where appropriate, choose the right topical antimicrobial and/or systemic antibiotics for treatment with the goals of eradicating and preventing infection and promoting wound healing (Wounds UK, 2013).
